Welcome to Rockville under weather alert in Daytona on Day 4

For the third day in a row and on the event’s final day, Welcome to Rockville officials have evacuated Daytona International Speedway due to the threat of severe weather.

Video screens at across the venue at about 2:30 p.m., read “ATTENTION Severe Weather. We are pausing the show due to severe weather approaching. Monitor festival social media for updates.”

3rd day in a row that weather has halted Welcome to Rockville performances

This is the third consecutive day that weather has halted performances. May 8 saw a 2 1/2 hour delay while May 9 logged a delay of 1 1/2 hours.

My Chemical Romance was scheduled to be the headliner on the closing night, going on at 10:20 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warning for coastal Volusia until 4:30 p.m. May 10

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for east central Volusia County until 4:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Impacted cities include Ponce Inlet, New Smyrna Beach Airport, New Smyrna Beach, Harbor Oaks, and Wilbur-by-the-Sea.

But the stormy weather has broken the enthusiasm of those concertgoers who’ve stuck it out since the start of the festival on May 7.

Rockville fan: ‘It’s Florida, it rains one minute, and it stops in five’

Shannon Smith of Daytona Beach has been to all four days of Welcome to Rockville. His top three performances thus far are Paleface, Lorna Shore, and Lamb of God. The rain has dampened fans, but not Smith’s spirit.

“It’s Florida. It rains one minute, and it stops in five. … Other than that, the shows are beautiful.“
