What award has Dak Prescott won now? Dallas Cowboys news and rumors

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has won another award! Since it’s May, it doesn’t have anything to do with his performance on the field, but he’s been deemed a good guy by people who vote on such things, which is the people who write about these things.

But he won’t be around forever. Is his successor someone in a strong college quarterback draft class of 2027? Meanwhile, could a Cowboy make the 2026 Pro Bowl as a rookie? It’s easy to guess which one it would be.

Here is what Dallas is doing.

Dak Prescott

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is the winner of the “Good Guy Award”, an honor given by the media to the player across the league who stands out as the most cooperative to them. It’s given annually by the PFWA (Professional Football Writers Association) to someone “for his qualities and professional style in helping pro football writers do their jobs.”

“Dak Prescott is one of the more accessible star players in the NFL,” said Dallas PFWA chapter vice president and former PFWA president Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. “He talks once a week during the season and, of course, after every game. However, if Dak is needed for an off-the-record conversation, he’s there for you.

“Dak explains the game to you from a game plan standpoint and reviews certain plays if you ask. The trust he has with the beat writers is respected on both sides. He understands the job of reporters more than anybody.”

Also, Prescott is in the news because ex-fiancée Sarah Jane Ramos had pictures of him included in a block of Instagram photos she released this weekend to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday, months after the couple called off their planned Italian wedding.

Dak Prescott replacement

Dak Prescott has been playing like he’s in the middle of his prime for the Dallas Cowboys, and he’s still four years younger than Tony Romo was in 2016 when the Cowboys drafted Prescott with a view to him being a potential replacement several years down the road.

But an injury to Romo made “several years” become “several weeks” instead. Prescott is still the long-term answer at quarterback, though he typically misses several games a year to injury. Could Dallas start looking for someone to tutor under Prescott as a QB2 while developing into an eventual successor?

ESPN’s Jordan Reid compiled a list of 22 college quarterbacks to watch in what he calls a very strong year at the position, after an exceptionally weak one in 2026. That list is now 21 since Texas Tech’s Brendan Soresby is in limbo after being declared ineligible by the NCAA.

Yes, Arch Manning is on the list. If he’s in Dallas next year, something has gone terribly wrong for either him or the Cowboys. If Prescott finishes the year healthy and Dallas drafts a quarterback, it will be in the late rounds (Prescott was a fourth-round pick in 2016, when it was assumed Romo had another half-decade left in him).

If Dallas is drafting a quarterback early in this 2027 draft, it will be because Prescott has had some career-threatening injury.

Parris Campbell retire

Cowboys wide receiver Parris Campbell, a member of the practice squad all of last season, has retired at the age of 28 before what would have been his sixth year in the league. He won a Super Bowl in 2024 with Philadelphia, a season where he caught six passes after being activated from the practice squad late in the season.

His departure leaves Dallas with two spots to fill to reach its 90-man roster limit.

Caleb Downs

Dallas’ top draft pick, safety Caleb Downs, had Cowboy fans excited on draft night, and that excitement has just built since. Sports Illustrated’s Zach Dimmitt has a list of five Dallas players who could make their first Pro Bowl in 2026, and Downs is the only rookie on a list that does include two other first-year-with-Dallas players.

The list is Downs, oft-injured linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, tailback Javonte Williams and newcomers, safety Jalen Thompson and cornerback Cobie Durant.

Of Downs, Dimmitt writes: “Only the most elite rookies are deserving of a Pro Bowl spot, and it certainly wouldn’t surprise anyone if Downs ends up making the cut once the regular season is over.

“The No. 11 overall pick in the draft will no doubt have some first-year growing pains, but his versatility and unmatched IQ will likely lead to some game-changing plays throughout the season.

”Downs can still have a successful season without a Pro Bowl nod, but the star on his helmet instantly gives the former Ohio State star a chance at winning some of those unofficial popularity points.”

Myles Garrett

Still not a Cowboy. Searching his name won’t make it so.

Dallas Cowboys training camp 2026

The Dallas Cowboys begin their voluntary Organized Team Activities (OTAs) June 1 at their facility in Frisco. The on-field sessions are June 1–2, June 4, June 8–9, and June 11 and serve as the first opportunity for the rookie class to work with the veterans.

Dallas is holding its mandatory minicamp shortly after that, June 16-18. Their fall camp now has a start date, as the team will assemble on July 21 in Oxnard, Calif. Those practices at River Ridge Playing Fields are open to the public and free. Dallas will break camp on Aug. 14 and then head to Seattle to open the preseason on Aug. 15 against the Seahawks.
