The eight-team field for the 2026 Women’s College World Series has been set, with No. 11 Texas Tech and unseeded Mississippi State joining six teams who came into the 64-team tournament seeded in the top eight.
Defending champion Texas, the No. 2 seed, and No. 1 seed Alabama are two of five SEC teams in the field. Every game is set to be televised on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
Alabama is a slight betting favorite, though Texas Tech, the second-lowest-seeded team in the field, is the second favorite.
NCAA softball tournament 2026, format
The 2026 NCAA Women’s College World Series starts on Thursday, May 28, with the three-game finals set for June 3-5. Eight teams have emerged from what started two weeks ago as a 64-team tournament.
While it is an eight-team, double-elimination tournament, it functions more like two separate four-team double eliminations with the winners of each four-team bracket playing each other for the championship.
