The UIL State Track meet had its share of highlights from the area, creating a solid core of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week.
The Globe-News is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the Happy State Bank High School Athlete of the Week each week.
Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close on Thursday and the winners will be announced thereafter.
Nominations are due by 5 p.m. each Saturday and can be submitted through email at sports@amarillo.com.
Please include statistics from the week’s games and any pertinent information or honors.

This Week’s Finalists
• Addyson Bristow, Canyon girls track — Bristow won the 800, 1,600 and her anchor leg in the 1,600 relay helped the Eagles claim a share of the Class 4A UIL State Track Team title at the state meet in Austin.
• Merritt Cudd, Gruver baseball — Cudd laced a game-winning two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Greyhounds beat Stamford 8-7 and sweep the regional semifinal series. He was 3 for 4 in the game, had five hits in the series and three RBIs.
• Maddie Francis, Silverton girls track — Francis competed in four events at the UIL State Track Meet, winning gold in the 100 (14.53) and 300 hurdles (45.06) in Class 1A.
• Carly Land, Panhandle girls track — Land helped the Ettes to the 1,600 relay to a state title, a silver medal in the 400 relay and finished fourth in the 200 as Panhandle finished second as a team in Class 2A.
• Jaxon Lawler, Bushland boys track — Lawler snagged a pair of medals at the UIL State Track Meet, winning the boys shot put (57-2 ¼) and finishing third in the discus (178-5).
• Alhosan Sheriff, Tascosa boys track — Sheriff clocked a 13.91 seconds in the 110 hurdles to claim bronze in Class 5A at the UIL State Track Meet.
• Brycen Williams, West Plains boys track — Williams cleared 6-7 to share gold medal honors in the Class 4A boys high jump.
• Madi Zubia, Dumas softball — Zubia was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in a Game 1 win and homered in Game 2 adding two more hits as the Demonettes swept West Plains to advance to the Class 4A Division I state semifinals.
