The West Texas high school sports season is over, and the Standard-Times will now ask fans and the community for their input on who they believe should be the San Angelo Standard-Times Athlete of the Year, presented by City National Bank.
The West Texas, Concho Valley, and San Angelo area saw plenty of outstanding performances during the high school sports season, as local athletes in football, volleyball, cross country, swim and dive, basketball, track and field, tennis, golf, baseball, and softball competed throughout the regular season and postseason.
After the season concluded, there were 32 San Angelo Standard-Times Athlete of the Week winners throughout the West Texas high school sports season. Those winners will be split into three rounds of voting for Athlete of the Year.
The first round of voting had all 32 Athlete of the Week winners competing for a spot in the top 16 in the second round of voting. Then, the final round of voting will have the top eight competing for the Athlete of the Year title.
Here are the top 16 vote getters, which will begin on Monday, June 8, and end at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11.
