A portion of Loop 375 outside of eastern Fort Bliss has been shut down due to reports of a person with a weapon, the El Paso Police Department said.
The call of a person with a weapon came in about 10:45 a.m. in the area of Loop 375 named the Purple Heart Memorial Highway close to Spur 601, also known as the Liberty Expressway, police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo said in a media message.
The area around Liberty Expressway Exit 31 has been shut down and drivers should avoid the area, Oviedo stated.
A Texas Department of Transportation highway camera shows traffic on Loop 375 blocked off near an overpass that crosses over the freeway near Sergeant Major Boulevard, north of the Spur 601 intersection. The area along the sides of the highway is mostly desert.
