Victim identified in Anita Drive stabbing, suspect in custody

Authorities have identified a 51-year-old man who died after a stabbing early Wednesday in Corpus Christi.

Police officers were dispatched about 1:17 a.m. May 27 to the 4500 block of Anita Drive in reference to a stabbing, according to an online post by the police department.

Upon arrival, officers located one man dead and two injured men.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 51-year-old Gabino Gonzalez Sr.

The two injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was unknown as of May 28.

In an email, Senior Officer Antonio Contreras said the suspect is in custody but still receiving medical treatment as of May 28. He said an update will be posted online when the man is officially booked.

A preliminary investigation revealed an argument occurred and one man began to assault the other two with a weapon. The involved parties are related and were known to each other.

Police said the stabbing was an isolated incident, but other information about the circumstances was not immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
