Quintin Demps, football, 2004-07

The safety Demps is UTEP’s all-time leader in interception return yards (404), which includes three interception returns for touchdowns, and is second in program history with 17 interceptions.

He was drafted by Philadelphia in the fourth round of the 2008 draft and played 10 years for five different teams, including two stints totaling five seasons with the Houston Texans. He currently coaches at Central State University in Ohio.

Luster Goodwin, men’s basketball, 1981-85

Goodwin is the No. 12 scorer in UTEP basketball history (1,327 points) and did so without the 3-point shot in that era of college basketball. He helped the Miners to three postseason tournament appearances, including the National Invitation Tournament in 1983 and the NCAA Tournament in 1984 and 1985.

Goodwin is fifth in school history in field goals made (572) and was a first-team All-WAC selection in 1985. He later served as an assistant coach under Don Haskins from 1995 to 1999.

Mickael Hanany, men’s track and field, 2005-08

Hanany won the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championship in the high jump with a leap of 7-foot, 7 ¼-inches. He was a seven-time All-American and a 14-time Conference USA champion, with five long jump titles, four in the triple jump, and five high jump titles.

He represented France at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics and won bronze at the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki. He currently lives in El Paso.

Alix Moncada, rifle, 2009-12

Moncada was a three-time All-American in air rifle from 2009-12. She led the Miners to a school-record, fifth-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championships. She finished ninth individually at the NCAA Championships in air rifle in 2009, seventh in 2011 and eighth in 2012.

Esther Otieno, women’s track and field, 1979-82

Otieno won the NCAA national championship in the long jump in 1979 and was a member of the Miners’ championship mile relay team in 1980. She concluded her UTEP career (1979-82) as a seven-time All-American.

She currently ranks No. 3 on the all-time UTEP list in the outdoor long jump (20’8” ½) and No. 9 on the indoor list (19’7” ½).
