The Opening Finals kicked off on Thursday at the Nike headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. One of the top prospects in attendance was five-star wide receiver Easton Royal, who is committed to the Texas Longhorns.
Rivals was also at the event as they watched Royal and others compete in one-on-one drills, individual work, and 7-on-7 competition. According to Cody Bellaire, Royal showcased why he’s one of the best high school players in the nation as he was named one of the top performers on Day 1.
Royal was quite dynamic this morning. He’s one of those player that has good track speed and translates it to the football field. His ability to get vertical and explode off the line of scrimmage essentially gets him a step behind defenders as soon as the ball is snapped. Royal does such a good job of tracking the ball downfield. He’s a very natural pass catcher when it comes to deep balls and you saw that in the 7-on-7 setting.
Royal simply continued the dominance he displayed as a junior at Brother Martin High School. He amassed over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 29 total touchdowns which led to Class 5A Offensive Most Valuable Player and First-Team All-State honors in Louisiana.
At the moment, Royal is the second-highest ranked recruit in the 2027 class for the Longhorns behind five-star cornerback John Meredith III and the No. 6 player in the country. When it comes to prospects that Texas has to hold on to in the cycle, he’s at the top of the list.
