It’s summer, which means rankings galore for college football fans who aren’t just interested in where their team’s quarterback is positioned both nationally and conference-wide, but also in how the media ranks each program’s attire, ranging from helmet style to each jersey’s color scheme.
While these types of rankings are created in jest, they do result in plenty of discussion and debate, especially in the SEC, where tradition is king. Over the last year, Texas and Oklahoma have joined the conference, bringing their own unique colors and classic logos to the longtime SEC members, which include Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida, who have not changed their standard look in several decades.
After ranking the SEC helmets, which, compared to most in the past, was not built on past bias after ranking Kentucky’s skullcap No. 1, Aggies Wire will now reveal the latest SEC uniform rankings ahead of the 2025 season, which is less than 90 days away. For all 16 conference teams, these rankings will be based on each program’s standard color home uniforms.
16. Ole Miss Rebels
The helmet and uniform combination is relatively basic, while the alternative power blue look is much more interesting compared to the standard red and navy blue. Being ranked last is brutal, but several other teams’ uniforms could also vie for 16th.
15. Georgia Bulldogs
Like Ole Miss, Georgia’s red and black colors are similar to those of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, who have maintained a very basic look since the program’s inception and have not changed it. What’s remarkable is that Georgia could be ranked as high as the Top 5 or as low as 15th, depending on opinion.
14. Florida Gators
Florida’s traditional orange and blue uniform is beloved for historical reasons, but for the naked eye, its appeal is only for the alumni base. However, if orange is your favorite color, I imagine the Gators would be much higher on the list.
13. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Apologies to my writer, Dylan Flippo, who is a Mississippi State graduate. I see the irony in criticizing the maroon and white color scheme, but the Bulldogs’ classic design doesn’t stand out. Maybe someday!
12. Tennessee Volunteers
Just like the Florida Gators, Tennessee’s orange and white have historical significance, and are one of the most debated uniforms from an aesthetic point of view. The combination is highly recognizable among the public, especially college football fans.
11. Alabama Crimson Tide
The Nick Saban years brought back the glory that is Alabama football, as the classic crimson jerseys and old-school helmet style are one of the most intimidating looks based on the program’s championship pedigree. You can expect no changes to this look anytime soon.
10. Missouri Tigers
Missouri’s black and gold Iowa Hawkeyes-like look is always solid to the naked eye, and Missouri being in the SEC has been confusing to some over the years, the Tigers have continued to win at least eight or nine games over the last four seasons.
9. South Carolina Gamecocks
The Gamecocks are on the rise, and the uniform has never looked sharper. Combined with head coach Shane Beamer’s fiery personality, South Carolina deserves to be on the big stage and will be one of the toughest teams in the SEC in 2025.
8. LSU Tigers
LSU could have been ranked lower, but they always get a passing grade due to purple being a central uniform color, while the program’s championship pedigree has taken a pause, but recently produced one of the greatest seasons of all time in 2019.
7. Kentucky Wildcats
This ranking will always be controversial to most based on Kentucky’s standing in the SEC, but the blue and white combination, especially the alternative blue helmet, shines so bright.
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
While I’m not a fan of the helmet alone, Arkansas’s cardinal and apple blossom uniform color scheme is eye-catching, and when the Razorbacks are rolling, it’s very entertaining to watch this uniform matchup with any SEC opponent.
5. Auburn Tigers
Auburn will always be high on any uniform list due to its distinctive color scheme of burnt orange and navy blue, surrounded by white. It’s not only classic but highly appealing to the masses.
4. Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma’s helmet is consistently praised for its classic design, while the crimson and red uniform combination dominated the Big 12 for years, with only Texas rivaling the look, and hopes to turn things around in the SEC sooner rather than later.
3. Texas Longhorns
As you can see, these rankings are set up perfectly from a rivalry standpoint. Yes, if you’re fan hatred lies in Austin, Texas, you’ll hate where the Longhorns are positioned. Still, you can’t deny that Burt orange and white isn’t a solid combo along with the classic helmet design.
2. Texas A&M Aggies
Maroon and White in College Station is as classic as it gets, no matter how much Texas A&M has underperformed over the past four seasons. With the Lonestar Showdown back in action, the color clash is something every college football fan can look forward to every year.
1. Vanderbilt Commodores
Yes, the Vanderbilt Commodores come in at No. 1 with the best-looking uniform in the SEC. This may come as a surprise to many, but the gold, black, and white combination is simply cool and matches perfectly with any of the 15 other SEC teams.
