He’s an outright stud lefty that led the Jackson High School baseball team to an outright league title.
It should come as no surprise that Jackson’s Landen Doll is the 2025 Federal League Baseball Player of the Year.
Doll earned the top player award while the Polar Bears’ Bill Gamble is the league’s coach of the year to highlight the all-league honors, as selected by the Fed’s head coaches.
Doll is the first league player of the year from Jackson since Yianni Skeriotis won the honor in 2018 and 2019. Fittingly, it’s Doll who reached some of Skeriotis’ records.
Doll went 10-0 with a save and 0.25 ERA for Jackson, which won the league by three games at 11-1 over second-place GlenOak. The 10 wins tie Skeriotis’ school record for single-season victories and almost match the number of walks Doll issued this season (11).
The 6-foot-3 Doll, a Marshall University recruit, totaled 109 strikeouts in 57 innings, surpassing Skeriotis’ previous single-season record of 93 strikeouts. Opponents batted .077 off him this season as Doll authored two no-hitters: April 22 at rival Hoover and May 31 against Brunswick in a Division I district championship.
Gamble led the Polar Bears to a 26-4 record overall and their second straight regional appearance. The Federal League title is Jackson’s fourth straight after sharing it in 2023 and 2024 and winning it outright in 2022. The Polar Bears have won at least a share of the league title in 10 of the last 11 seasons under Gamble, who last won the league coach of the year in 2019.
