A Texas A&M football legend is being inducted into another hall of fame for his contributions on the gridiron in Bryan-College Station.
According to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, quarterback Edd Hargett has been selected for induction into this year’s Southwest Conference Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco on Thursday, August 4, at 11:30 a.m. CT, per a press release from Texas A&M.
Hargett held various records after completing his collegiate career with the Aggies from 1966-68, including passing yards (5,379), total offense (5,411 yards), and touchdowns (40). He currently holds 20 school records at Texas A&M, etching his name into the history books as one of the greatest quarterbacks to compete in Aggieland.
He didn’t receive his first start until his sophomore campaign, in which he set a Texas A&M single-game record with 21 completions against Tulane. Hargett went on to start the remaining 30 contests of his time with the Aggies, which included a win in the 1967 Southwest Conference Championship and defeating legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s Alabama squad in the Cotton Bowl.
After an incredible college career filled with historic achievements, Hargett was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 1969 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Saints before ending his football career with the Houston Oilers.
His accomplishments in the Maroon and White are nothing short of spectacular. Hargett was a signal-calling pioneer in College Station who brought tremendous success to the program, which will be celebrated at the 2026 Southwest Conference Hall of Fame introduction ceremony in August.
