PEORIA — A batch of extreme weather is hitting the Peoria area and much of central Illinois on Wednesday, bringing severe thunderstorms and conditions prime for tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service is calling for two rounds of severe storms to move through the Peoria area on Wednesday, bringing with them high wind gusts up to 75 mph and large hail over two inches large.
A tornado watch is in effect for central, west, north and west central Illinois until 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service has also issued a flood warning for rivers in central Illinois.
