The Texas Tech Red Raiders have landed their second commitment of Wednesday, and this time they have gone overseas. Three-star offensive tackle Zarius Matavao has committed to Texas Tech, announcing the news on social media.
Matavao is from Melbourne, Australia, and attends the NFL Academy in England. He is the second prospect from the NFL Academy to commit to Texas Tech in the 2027 recruiting class, joining three-star defensive lineman Adeola Werner, who pledged on Monday.
He is ranked as the No. 1,654 overall player and No. 127 offensive tackle in the Rivals industry ranking. He also had scholarship offers from the California Golden Bears, TCU Horned Frogs, Minnesota Gophers, and Kansas State Wildcats.
It did not take long for Texas Tech to secure Matavao’s commitment. He received a scholarship offer on June 4 and announced his commitment less than two weeks later. He has great size at 6-foot-6 and 294 pounds, with 35-inch arms and an 84-inch wingspan, according to his social media bios.
He is Texas Tech’s 16th commitment overall and second along the offensive line, joining three-star offensive tackle Dontae Perkins. The group is ranked as the 6th-best class in the country and best in the Big 12 by Rivals. Seven of their commits will play along either the offensive or defensive line as Joey McGuire builds through the trenches.
