How Mike Elko plans to keep Texas A&M winning on the road

Texas A&M’s success during the 2025 season, including the Aggies first appearance in the College Football Playoff, was mainly due to coach Mike Elko and his staff’s ability to motivate and prepare the loaded 2025 roster for all five road games, resulting in four wins, including the memorable Week 3 road victory over Notre Dame that later solidified the program’s CFP chances.

While road wins over LSU and Missouri, both in blowout fashion, were equally impressive, the regular-season finale loss to Texas has continued to haunt Mike Elko, who has yet to defeat Texas since the Longhorns joined the SEC before the 2024 season.

This offseason, before a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, Elko landed 17 players from the transfer portal, including Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka, Tennessee transfer cornerback Rickey Gibson, and former Alabama wide receiver Isaiah Horton, all of whom are expected to make an immediate and lasting impact.

This summer, outside of recruiting, Mike Elko has had some rare free time to speak to the media, making a stop on the Always College Football show, hosted by former Alabama QB and CFB analyst Greg McElroy, to discuss a variety of topics, including the Aggies’ road success in 2025 and the road ahead this fall.

How will Texas A&M continue to dominate on the road in 2026? That will take the same discipline and consistent play on both sides of the ball, not just to have a chance, but to withstand the always raucous and intimidating environments, which include road battles vs. LSU, Missouri, South Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma. Here’s what Elko had to say.
