Gina Hinojosa, Gov. Abbott on Dems convention in Texas governor race

Texas Democratic governor candidate Gina Hinojosa rallied state Democrats in a rousing speech at the party’s convention in Corpus Christi.

Hinojosa noted that achieving the American dream in Texas starts with capitalizing on the Democratic momentum in this gubernatorial race during the event on June 25-27.

“The American Dream is ours for the taking because Texas is a world economic powerhouse, and it is the people of Texas who built that power,” she said. “But the thing about power: no one is going to give it to us. We have to take it back.”

She noted that Gov. Greg Abbott is “tearing (Democrats) apart” over their differences because the party can take back corporate power and return it to the people of Texas. During the speech, she vowed to save Texas schools and put money back into the pockets of Texans.

“If we are disciplined, this is a fight we can win,” she said. “We’ve lost our way because of a corrupt political system where corporate actors and lobbyists have unlimited money to influence politicians in both parties. The result is that global corporate power has grown at the expense of opportunity for working Texans.”

She stressed the Democratic party will stand with all Texans, no matter their race, color or creed and always will.

Hinojosa contended Abbott supports “a trickle-down economic agenda for Texas,” where success was defined as investment in global corporations, instead of investment in Texans, and too many Democrats in office went along.

“Greg Abbott built the biggest data center giveaway in the country,” she said. “The richest men in the world, his donors, are running up your electric bill and guzzling your water, while you pay for it. And now that I am running against him, he wants you to forget that he is the one who sold the farm for cheap, in a fire sale to his billionaire donors. No one believes the arsonist will actually put out the fire.”

Gov. Greg Abbott calls for conservative unity against ‘radical’ policies

Abbott responded to a bolstered message from the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi. He called for a united Republican party during a campaign stop on Friday, June 26.

“The Republican Party is the only thing standing in the way of radical, left-wing socialism,” Abbott said. “Democrats continue to attack the Texan way of life by supporting open borders, defunding the police, and allowing boys to play in girls’ sports. Unity drives victory, and Republicans must win up and down the ballot in November to keep Texas the epicenter of freedom and individual liberty.”

He also used the opportunity to talk about his five-point property tax plan, which he claims will slash Texans’ property tax bills. It is set to:
