Future Hall of Famer Von Miller causes new Cowboys buzz with cryptic post

The buzz is back.

Von Miller, the eight-time Pro Bowler who currently sits just outside the NFL’s all-time top 10 in sacks, appears to be re-stoking a fire that Cowboys fans have warmed to before. This time it comes thanks to a cryptic social media post picturing Miller in a Cowboys uniform, with some observers interpreting it as a sign the Texas native could soon be signing with Dallas for the 2026 season… or at least wants to.

Miller, 37, played for Washington last season but said just this week on a podcast that he “picked the wrong team,” referring to his decision not to sign with Seattle, the eventual Super Bowl champs.

With two rings of his own already, Miller seems to still be hungry for another. The free agent lobbied as recently as May for a return to Denver, where he played the first ten-plus seasons of his career.

And now comes Wednesday’s post that seems to add the Cowboys to the potential mix for his services. The former Texas A&M product has been linked to the Cowboys previously and as recently as last summer. He is friends with several Cowboys players both past and present, having been spotted taking in World Cup action at AT&T Stadium alongside Dez Bryant and Emmitt Smith. He still considers the Dallas area his home, and he remains the owner of a poultry farm in nearby DeSoto.

As for his potential fit in the current Cowboys defense, there are intriguing points to consider. Christian Parker couldn’t ask for a much better veteran leader to help implement his first-year scheme. (Miller and Parker did cross paths briefly in Denver, before Miller was traded to the Rams in 2021.)

Miller has also been working closely for years with BT Jordan, the pass-rush specialist who is now on the Cowboys’ staff.

And the Cowboys’ conversion to a 3-4 system could use a few more experienced edge rushers. Rashan Gary leads the current OLB group, with Donovan Ezeiruaku, James Houston, Sam Williams, and rookie Malachi Lawrence all looking to make a splash. Marist Liufau will join the rotation, along with Charles Snowden, Tyrus Wheat, and Isaiah Land.

Miller’s name would certainly jump toward the top of that depth chart, as he still has plenty left in the tank. His nine sacks in 2025 were good for a top-20 standing leaguewide, and it’s worth noting they came on just 420 defensive snaps, or roughly the same amount of action that Trevon Diggs saw for Dallas last year.

Miller currently has 138.5 sacks on his resume, tied with former Cowboy (and Bronco) DeMarcus Ware for 13th all-time. Three more sacks puts him in the NFL’s top 10, and climbing as high as No. 6 wouldn’t be out of the question, even in his 16th season.

The Cowboys and Miller have tapdanced around each other for years. With a renewed sense of optimism about the 2026 roster and an urgency for the rebuilt Dallas defense to rise to the occasion opposite their high-octane offense, could this finally be the opportunity to bring Miller home to suit up- for real- with his hometown team for one run at a title?
