Texas Tech Museum hosting motorcycle exhibit
The Museum of Texas Tech University opened the exhibition, “Yamaha: The Rise of Two-Stroke Street Bikes” on June 10, which will run through Sept. 7. The exhibition features a rare, complete collection of 14 Yamaha two-stroke motorcycles from the 1960s and 70s – an era that revolutionized global motorcycle design and marketability to the youth demographic.
The museum is open 10 a.m-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays. The Museum of Texas Tech University, 3301 Fourth St.
The featured collection was assembled over five decades by a local private collector, who was fascinated by the global effort from major manufacturers to produce attractive designs and models for every rider and budget. The collector began with a single Yamaha in 1971. The completed full line of 14 motorcycles includes motor sizes ranging from 50cc to 400cc in 2021.
The exhibition connects engineering innovation with personal passion, showcasing not only the technical excellence of the motorcycles but the lasting impact they had on generations of riders. It also reflects the museum’s commitment to presenting bold, multidisciplinary exhibitions that resonate with both regional and national audiences.
