Texas A&M’s Maroon & White Game will serve as the official end to the spring football season, and the 15th overall practice, as third-year head coach Mike Elko welcomed 17 transfer portal additions and 25 of 26 freshmen from the 2026 recruiting class.
While it’s hard to gauge how well every new and returning player performed, given that only a handful of practices allowed the media to film, freshman wide receiver Aaron Gregory was a consistent standout, while transfer linebacker Ray Coney lived up to the offseason hype, which is very important given that veteran linebacker Taurean York departed for the 2026 NFL Draft.

While starting quarterback Marcel Reed threw for a career high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns last season, his 12 interceptions, including four during the final two losses to Texas and Miami in the first round of the College Football Playoff, did not provide the fan base a positive send off to the offseason, and are looking for more improvement from the redshirt junior in 2026.
Saturday’s Maroon & White Game will be Mike Elko’s third at the helm, and should provide more insight heading into the summer months regarding how close, or far away, the Aggies are from getting back to the CFP ahead of facing one of the toughest schedules in the SEC.
