Former Texas Tech star signs extension with Miami Dolphins

Former Texas Tech star Jordyn Brooks has signed a three-year $51.3 million extension with the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move comes after a career year for the linebacker.

The deal includes $35 million guaranteed and locks him down as the Dolphins enter a rebuild under new head coach Jeff Hafley. He was set to be a free agent after the 2026 season, but will now be a centerpiece of the new Dolphins defense and mentor former Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, who is entering his rookie season in Miami.

Brooks made the All-Pro First Team after leading the NFL in combined tackles (183) and solo tackles (99) last season. It was his first time making an All-Pro team, and he also made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his six-year career. He also recorded 3.5 sacks, 13.0 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

The Dallas, Texas native is entering his third season with the Dolphins after the Seattle Seahawks drafted him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had four productive seasons with them before the Dolphins signed him as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season.

He has started all 34 games over the past two seasons in Miami, finishing with 326 tackles, 24.0 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, nine pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He also led the NFL in solo tackles in 2021.
