Documentary featuring 1960 Miller football team to have local screening

A documentary featuring the 1960 Miller football team, the first integrated team to win a UIL state championship, “The PVIL Story: Separate But Equal?” will have a screening in Corpus Christi on Wednesday, June 17 at the Corpus Christi Museum of Science at History.

The showing is part of the Ritz Spotlight Series and will feature a live Q&A following the screening including filmmakers and members of the 1960 Miller football team Ramon Gonzales and Johnny Roland.

The film examines the history of the Prairie View Interscholastic League, an organization that was the governing body for black schools in Texas between 1920-1970, along with the journey to integration in the state with the 1960 Miller Bucs featuring prominently.

Speakers scheduled to appear on the Q&A panel include Fred McClure, Mark Burns, Joe Holley, Rob Lynch, Scott Nethery, Michael Hurd, John McClain along with Gonzales and Roland.
