What are you doing this weekend? That can be one of the most anticipated, and sometimes dreaded, questions at the conclusion of a busy week.
While the weekend finally provides much-needed me time, it can sometimes be daunting trying to figure out exactly what is going on to participate in.
That’s why we did the work for you and rounded up some of the top local events happening here in Abilene.
Here are three local events you won’t want to miss.
Serial Killer Speakeasy
Step inside the dark history of America’s most notorious serial killers this weekend at the Serial Killer Speakeasy, an immersive touring event that will be featured on Friday and Saturday at the Mesquite Event Center, 201 Mesquite St.
This 90-minute show will include live theatrical performances walking spectators through the twisted minds of serial killers, including Ted Bundy, Jeffry Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy and Ed Gein. Each killer’s story also includes a themed cocktail to pair with the performance.
The event is for adults 21 and up, and more information and tickets are available on the event’s website.
World Giraffe Day Festival
This Saturday is World Giraffe Day, and there’s no better way to celebrate Earth’s tallest creatures than by visiting the Abilene zoo for their annual Giraffe Day Festival.
Zoo guests will be able to enjoy special giraffe keeper talks and learn more about giraffe conservation efforts, participate in behind-the-scenes barn tours, do yoga on the giraffe terrace and have the opportunity to create art alongside a giraffe.
Some events require prior registration and tickets. More information can be found on the zoo’s website. Proceeds from the event will support giraffe conservation.
Abilene Courts Father’s Day Car Show
Celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday with the first annual Abilene Courts Father’s Day Car Show Fundraiser starting at 10 a.m. at the Abilene Courts Property, 633 S. 11th St.
This family-friendly event is free to attend and is slated to feature classic automobiles between the 1930s and 1970s, door prizes, food and more.
All donations from the event will go toward the reconstruction of the Abilene Courts structure. More information can be found on the Abilene Preservation League’s website.
