Amarillo Fire Department issues statement on South Texas deployment

The Amarillo Fire Department issued a statement July 27 about the recent deployment of firefighters to South Texas during the recent flooding disaster. All of the units returned to Amarillo last week.

“When communities across Texas face disaster, the Amarillo Fire Department is proud to answer the call for help. This past week, several members of our department deployed to South Texas to assist communities impacted by devastating flooding,” the statement said. “While our first responsibility is always to the citizens of Amarillo, we are also part of a statewide network of first responders committed to helping one another in times of crisis.”

The rest of the statement continues:

“Our mission is to protect our community by providing the highest quality of compassionate and professional services. That commitment extends beyond our city limits when resources allow. By assisting our neighbors, we strengthen the partnerships, experience, and coordination that make every Texas community more resilient.

“These deployments enhance our own preparedness by giving our personnel valuable experience during large-scale incidents. They also reinforce the strong mutual aid relationships that ensure communities across Texas, including Amarillo, can rely on one another when disaster strikes.

“We are incredibly proud of the men and women who represented the Amarillo Fire Department in South Texas. Their professionalism, compassion, and dedication reflect the very best of our department, and our thoughts remain with the families and communities affected by these floods.”
