MVP
Mykha Green, sr., Sinton
What more can be said about Sinton’s Mykha Green? A threat to chase the history books seemingly every week, Green had the second-best rushing season in Coastal Bend history with 3,444 yards, set a new Corpus Christi-area record with 48 rushing touchdowns and had the seventh-best rushing game in area history with 369 yards against G-P.
Even with 313 carries, the explosive running back averaged 11 yards per carry.
His game-breaking ability pushed the Pirates to a share of the district title, the Region IV championship and an appearance in the state semifinals.
Offensive Player of the Year
Damian Figueroa, sr., Tuloso-Midway
Figueroa finished with 2,151 yards and 28 touchdowns, surpassing 2,000 yards for the second time in his career.
The Warriors’ star made an impact in the passing game as well, leading T-M in receiving, catching 17 passes for 388 yards, totaling 34 offensive touchdowns to go with averaging 36.3 yards per kickoff return and 18.4 yards per punt return adding two return scores.
Figueroa ends his career as the fifth-leading rusher in Coastal Bend history.
Defensive Player of the Year
Zander Wills, sr., Refugio
Wills was part of a huge 1-2 punch for the Bobcats, which marched back to the state semifinals.
The senior was a huge factor on offense with 1,755 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns and was dominant on defense.
The Refugio lineback finished with 141 tackles and an eye-popping 41 tackles for loss to go with five sacks, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble receovery and one defensive touchdown.
Newcomer of the Year
Bryant Mitchell, fr., Gregory-Portland
Mitchell made an immediate impact for the Wildcats this season, and as a result — a rarity — a defensive player is the All-South Texas Newcomer of the Year.
Mitchell was the District 14-5A Division II Defensive Newcomer of the Year and finished with strong numbers for anyone, let alone a freshman, at defensive end.
Mitchell tallied 55 tackles, five tackles for loss, seven sacks, 13 hurries, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two pass break ups as the Wildcats won the district title and advanced to the regional semifinals.
Coach of the Year
Eric Soza, Rockport-Fulton
Before Soza’s arrival, the program had won two games and was in need of new direction. In his first season as a head coach, the team returned to the UIL playoffs and earned a postseason victory, setting the tone for what was to come.
This past season, the progress continued. Competing in a highly competitive district, his team captured a share of the district championship, then went on to win two playoff games and battle one of the region’s eventual finalists for four quarters.
In two years, Soza has helped program go from rebuilding to competing with some of the top teams in the Coastal Bend, giving the community renewed excitement for high school football.
Six-Man Player of the Year
Damian Salazar, sr., IWA
IWA senior Damian Salazar was named the Six-Man Player of the Year on the Caller-Times All-South Texas team after a dominant 2025 season. Salazar rushed for 2,386 yards and 41 touchdowns, establishing himself as a dynamic playmaker in the Coastal Bend. Salazar was a key piece for the Angels, who successfully navigated a unique schedule that featured a combination of six-man and 11-man football.
