16 finalists emerge for High School Team of the Year, presented by Happy State Bank

After multiple weeks of voting, readers chose the boys and girls Happy State Bank Fan Favorite High School Athletes of the Year.

Now, readers will have a chance to select a Happy State Bank boys and girls team of the year from three dozen teams included because of their success during the 2025-26 school year.

Voting is broken down over two weeks beginning Monday, July 13, and will run Monday through Thursday each week.

Randall volleyball received the most votes in the first week, 337, followed by Dumas softball (290).

Gruver football and Gruver baseball received the most votes among boys teams.

At the end of voting, the top boys team and top girls team will be anointed the Happy State Bank Fan Favorite Teams of the Year.

Voting totals reset each week.

The teams represent schools of every size across the area. Here are the 16 teams that will continue on in the voting for the Happy State Bank Team of the Year.

• Gruver football — 99

• Gruver baseball — 85

• Nazareth girls basketball — 54

• Panhandle girls basketball — 20

• Canyon boys track — 17

• Bushland volleyball — 11

• Canyon girls cross country — 11

• West Texas football — 7

• Sundown softball — 6

• Canyon boys cross country — 6

• West Plains football — 5

• Randall girls cross country — 5

• Panhandle boys basketball — 4

• Panhandle girls track — 3

975 total votes

During the school year please submit nominees, with stats, honors and accolades from the previous week by Saturday each week to sports@amarillo.com.
