Wooster explains closure of Knight’s Field Spray Ground facility

WOOSTER — The City of Wooster has clarified its reasoning for closing the Knight’s Field Spray Ground for the 2026 season.

“We understand and share the community’s disappointment regarding the decision to keep the Knight’s Field Spray Ground closed for the 2026 season. We want to provide full transparency regarding the severe mechanical issues that led to this decision, and the timeline constraints we face,” said a letter to residents posted on the city’s Facebook page.

During routine pre-season inspections, an electrical failure at the site was discovered. The repairs are expected to take 3 to 4 weeks, according to a community announcement.

With the closure of all city aquatic facilities on Aug. 15, the spray ground would only have been open for a few weeks after the repair was made.

Knight’s Field Spray Ground is the least-used water facility, accounting for about 3% of all aquatic visits, according to the city.

Residents are being encouraged to visit Freedlander Pool, which includes a kiddie pool for families. To help those who were planning to visit Knight’s Field, Wooster WayGo is adding a temporary stop at Freedlander Pool with free fare.

How to ride: Use the bus stop at Community Action and tell the driver you are going to Freedlander Pool.

Age policies: Children 12 and older may ride the WayGo bus alone. Children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The stop at Freedlander will begin June 20.
