According to an announcement from Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, his office received a call at 6:40 a.m. from Uhrichsville Police that a woman came into the station saying she had been shot by her ex-boyfriend. She was bleeding from the head and was taken by ambulance to Canton.

Detective Sgt. Ryan Hamilton, Detective Sgt. Ed Jones and Detective Sgt. Cole Morris along with uniformed patrol deputies responded to various locations reportedly involved with the incident.

According to a preliminary statement from the victim, she was traveling on Edie Hill Road when the suspect blocked her path with his vehicle. When the victim stopped, the man got out of his vehicle and began firing at her. Multiple gunshots struck the victim’s car, and she suffered a wound to the head.

The victim the left the scene, striking the man’s vehicle before escaping and making it to Uhrichsville, Campbell said. The suspect then left the area.

Stopped in Cadiz

At 7:21 a.m. Cadiz Police spotted the suspect driving a black Ford F-150 pickup on U.S. 22 in Cadiz. Police then stopped the truck. They were later joined by deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The man, accompanied by his two teenage sons, stopped and complied without incident and was detained and eventually taken into custody, the sheriff said. The suspect’s vehicle as well as the victim’s vehicle were towed back to the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

The two teenage boys were placed with a family member to care for them after consulting with the Tuscarawas County Job & Family services.

A search warrant was executed at the suspect’s home where firearms, ammunition and other evidence were located. The man had an active protection order on him, where the victim was one of the protected people. This protection order made it illegal for the suspect to possess or own a firearm. Other important evidence was located that corroborates the victim’s account of the story but is not being released at this time.
