Vote now in the Marion Star Athlete of the Week Polls for April 26

The league championships are starting to be decided for baseball and softball around the Marion area.

Boys tennis is heading into its stretch run, while a pair of historic track meets are set to be held Friday, May 1 at Elgin and Marion Harding.

To celebrate the best performances of the week that ended April 26, the Marion Star is offering a pair of athlete of the week polls for boys and girls.

Fans can vote as often as allowed at MarionStar.com and its app through early Sunday morning of May 3. Here are the nominees:

Marion Star Boys Athlete of the Week Poll for April 26

Northmor baseball’s Trevor Brubaker threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks in a win over Mount Gilead.

Highland baseball’s Caleb Youngman threw a 75-pitch one-hitter with a strikeout and walk, plus hit a double and scored twice in a win over River Valley.

Elgin baseball’s Colton Ware threw a five-inning one-hitter, striking out 10 and walking none, while also doubling at the plate in a win over Waynesfield-Goshen.

Cardington baseball’s Fisher Schuman tossed a three-hitter with two walks and eight strikeouts, plus doubled and singled in a win over Elgin.

North Union baseball’s Greyson Bledsoe got the win over Graham, pitching five innings of relief and allowing a hit and three walks with two strikeouts.

Ridgedale baseball’s Brody Mawer hit the program’s first home run in several seasons, while adding a double and single for three RBIs in a win over Cory-Rawson.

Marion Harding tennis player Sebastian Lisiecki went undefeated in first singles and doubles matches this week, also going 3-0 at the London Red Raider Tournament to help the Presidents to the title.

Marion Star Girls Athlete of the Week Poll for April 26

Elgin softball’s Madison Hill hit a double and two singles to score three runs, plus scattered eight hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in a win over Waynesfield-Goshen.

Marion Harding softball’s Macey Harper hit a triple and two singles in a win over Ridgemont.

River Valley softball’s Kylie Eastep hit two home runs and a single to end with eight RBIs, plus pitched two innings of relief, getting two strikeouts, no walks and giving up three hits in a win over Highland.

Ridgedale softball’s Hannah Murphy doubled and singled twice to score two runs and drive in a pair during a win over North Baltimore.

Northmor softball’s Maleah Blevins struck out 16 with no walks in a two-hitter over Mount Gilead.

Cardington softball’s Myleigh Bishop hit a home run in a win over Fredericktown.

North Union softball’s Hazlee Hall doubled and singled twice in a win over Pleasant.

Pleasant softball’s Carly Davis his a pair of doubles in a loss to Galion.

Last week’s winners

In last week’s boys poll, Elgin baseball’s Xavier Compton, who scored three runs and hit a triple and single, including the game-winner in the ninth inning against Waynesfield-Goshen, earned 704 of 1,384 voted for 51 percent to win it.

Other boys nominees were Marion Harding baseball’s Jaden Jordan, Highland baseball’s Jayden Collins, Mount Gilead baseball’s Gage Baker, Mawer, Pleasant baseball’s Ryan Conway and Cardington baseball’s Wyatt Denney.

In last week’s girls poll, River Valley softball’s Chloe Addis, who hit two home runs for three RBIs and three runs in a win over Shelby, earned 545 of 1,221 votes to win it with 45 percent.

Other girls nominees were Elgin softball’s Gracelyn Edmonstone, North Union softball’s Leah Cox, Marion Harding softball’s Allison Hecker, Highland softball’s Saylor Squires, Mount Gilead softball’s McKenlee Bump and Northmor track’s Kate Lehman.
