The chill weather in Greater Akron is about to come to an abrupt end.
The National Weather Service says strong and severe storms are possible Thursday afternoon and evening in Greater Akron.
The storms could bring heavy rain, damaging winds and even small hail.
The risk of rain showers is expected to hang around on Friday through Saturday morning.
Extreme heatwave coming to Greater Akron
The arrival of the storms will usher in warmer temperatures.
“If you have enjoyed the cool weather of late, enjoy it while it lasts because a prolonged period of heat and humidity is likely next week,” the weather service said.
The high on Thursday will be in the 80s before the rain cools things back to the 70s.
Temperatures in the 80s are expected on Saturday and Sunday.
The extreme heat arrives on Monday and Tuesday with highs in the 90s expected.
The high on Tuesday could reach 94 degrees.
The so-called real feel temperatures could exceed 100 degrees next week.
The heatwave is expected to continue for several days next week.
