Reds trade Rece Hinds to Marlins for Triple-A pitcher

The Cincinnati Reds have traded outfielder Rece Hinds to the Miami Marlins for pitcher Zach McCambley, according to the MLB transactions tracker.

Hinds, whom the Marlins optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville, had been designated for assignment by the Reds on May 17 after he hit .121 with three doubles in 36 plate appearances in the majors this year.

McCambley, 27, was a third-round pick by Miami in 2020 out of Coastal Carolina. He’s pitched to a 4.12 ERA in 147 minor league games (42 starts), though he’s enjoyed success since reaching Triple-A for the first time last year, with a 2.94 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings at the level.

McCambley, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound right-hander, has pitched 26.2 innings in Triple-A this season. He has a 2.36 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.

Hinds has a .172 average and seven home runs in 51 career MLB games but has hit 92 home runs in 474 games in the minors. He had a sizzling spring training for the Reds in Arizona, hitting .410 with five homers in 21 games.
