Racism has died off. Stop the liberal white guilt.
Re “Not everyone deserves Juneteenth off. Many Americans act against its meaning,” June 18: I would like to thank the author for illustrating so well how I could never identify with the modern Democratic Party who promotes these same views.
Like many Americans, I am not interested in constantly dwelling on the sins of our country’s past.
The people who made those decisions are mostly dead and gone now, but writers like Amelia Robinson seem to believe in collective ancestral punishment which is the opposite of our American values.
The author’s view is more at home in other countries with strict caste systems.
In today’s world, people are more exposed to folks of different skin colors than ever before.
Actual racism has largely died off with previous generations. I have worked in many different companies and lived in many different types of neighborhoods. I have observed that the people who are focused on race issues are either making excuses for their position in life or are making a career out of exploiting Liberal white guilt.
The happy reality in today’s America is that with hard work and determination, an individual can achieve anything they dream about. Knowledge has never been more available at our fingertips, and any barriers are easier to overcome than ever.
Division may get clicks on articles, but I choose to celebrate what Juneteenth set into motion all those years ago. A society where all people are created equal, treated according to their actions and limited by only their dreams. It has been a bumpy road to get here, but the future is certainly brighter than it has ever been before!

Juneteenth divides us
Re “Not everyone deserves Juneteenth off. Many Americans act against its meaning,” June 18: I respond to the article by Opinion Editor Amelia Robinson regarding Juneteenth. In her closing remarks she tells us that, “Juneteenth is a holiday for all Americans.”
If this is true, why was the Juneteenth flag featured as being raised at the Statehouse (I assume the U.S. flag was not raised). And the song, “Raise Every Voice and Sing” was voiced, but not our National Anthem?
I do believe that more separate, ethnic events will foster more division.

Mental health matters
Re “Gender-affirming care ban gets SCOTUS signoff in Skrmetti. What does that mean for Ohio?” on June 18: House Bill 68 and House Bill 96 also target life-affirming mental health care, not just medical treatment for transgender youth.
Public stigma, insurance limitations and inequitable access to mental health care in general place significant burden on trans youth and their families. Banning medical interventions is devastating in its own right, but removing access to a safe, affirming counselor (sometimes the only person with whom they can process) is catastrophic.
I’m respectfully asking for The Columbus Dispatch to include mental health care in future pieces to support the trans community.
