The Ohio State football team has an excellent recruiting class shaping up for 2027. With a few big fish left to reel in, the Buckeyes are hoping to have a top-five class. But recruiting never stops. With the ever-present presence of social media, coaches are forced to make connections with players earlier and earlier. Ohio State recently received a commitment from elite wide receiver Austin Miller, who just finished his freshman season.
With the 2027 class almost in place, eyes will soon turn fully to 2028. And the Buckeyes just got some big news regarding one of the top players in that class. The No. 1 quarterback in the class, Christopher Vargas, has received two crystal ball predictions from recruiting experts Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong in favor of the Scarlet and Gray. As a sophomore at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, Massachusetts, Vargas threw for over 1600 yards and 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions while playing in just nine games.
The young man holds 20 offers from an impressive list of schools, which includes Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Oregon, and Michigan, among others.
Vargas has already visited Columbus five times, with the most recent coming just last month. After that visit, he told Wiltfong that the Buckeyes are “definitely setting the pace.” That’s good news for Ryan Day and OSU. The Bucks are off to a good start already with the 2028 class. Five-star receiver Jett Harrison committed just last week. What a dynamic duo those two could be in the long run.
