Once a Buckeye, always a Buckeye.
If we say it, we have to believe it, and that’s even more important in today’s transfer portal and Name, Image and Likeness world. As players come and go, it’s often easy to get upset about a player leaving the program, but it’s best to wish them well, especially if that player gave multiple years to the Ohio State program.
Enter stage left, Devin Royal. He is a Central Ohio product, was named Mr. Basketball in Ohio, and committed to the Buckeyes, where he gave the program three really good years of sticking with things and putting in the work. He made the decision to transfer to Villanova for his senior season, and we should wish him well.
Royal introduced himself recently to Villanova fans, and though he won’t be bringing all that he’s made of as a person and player to the Schott any longer, it’s still cool to see what he said about himself, why he chose Villanova, and how he views the Wildcats’ program.
We wish Royal nothing but the best and hope it’s a good fit in Philadelphia; we just won’t root too hard if the Buckeyes and Wildcats cross paths somewhere in the postseason.
