NEW CONCORD − John Glenn sophomore Reid Howard delivered a game-winning 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Muskies an exciting 7-6 walk-off victory over the visiting Heath Bulldogs on Saturday, April 25.
Howard finished his big day with three singles along with his two game-winning RBIs, with Zane Townsend chipping in with a double, single and two RBIs for John Glenn (6-9). Keegan Halsey added a double, single with an RBI, and senior Owen Edwards collected an RBI base hit in the win.
John Glenn freshman Keegan Wolford picked up the win in relief of starter Rocco Sabino.
Barnesville 3, Ridgewood 2: The Shamrocks tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third, and held on for the win over the host Generals to improve to 12-3 on Saturday, April 25.
Bobby Thompson worked five innings to pick up the pitching victory for Barnesville, finishing with six strikeouts and two walks.
Parker Sobutka banged out an RBI single, and Keegan Martin doubled to lead the ‘Rocks’ five hit attack. Max Miller, Brayden Watters each singled and Dylan Blon collected an RBI.
Friday, April 24 Results
SOFTBALL
Cambridge 4, Meadowbrook 2: The Bobcats softball team defeated Guernsey County rival Meadowbrook 4-2 in extra innings on senior Miranda Cole’s three-run home run in the 9th inning on Friday, April 24 at Meadowbrook High School.
The Bobcats and the Colts entered the ninth inning in a 1-1 tie after both teams scored solo runs in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Cami Moore led off with a walk in the top of the ninth, followed by a Chelsey Well’s single to set the stage for Cole’s game-winning blast.
Kynlee Moran pitched all nine innings for CHS, scattering 10 hits and two walks while striking out seven to pick up the pitching victory. Senior McKendall Boyer took the loss for the Colts, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts, two walks in a full nine inning outing.
Moore and Laney Harper each banged out two hits to lead Cambridge (7-13), while Cole slugged the game-winning home run driving in three runs.
Senior Jordyn Vargeson paced Meadowbrook (12-6) with three singles with an RBI, with Boyer chipping in with a double, single and an RBI. Freshman Addie Schultice banged out a pair of base hits, while senior Addy Sichnia and junior Chole Callahan each ripped doubles.
Caldwell 6, Linsly 2: Host Caldwell moved to 13-2 behind another strong effort from senior ace Makayla Mumaw from the pitching circle on Friday, April 24.
Mumaw hurled seven innings, allowing just two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and three walks to improve her season record to 11-1.
Freshman Mea Hendershot doubled and singled, with junior Breighlee Moracco belting a three-run home run to lead Caldwell. Senior Lexi Franklin added a pair of base hits.
Fort Frye 5, Barnesville 1: The visiting Cadets got a strong pitching effort from Christy Willis to limit the Shamrocks to five hits to pick up the road win on Friday, April 24.
Willis worked five innings, allowing just one run with two strikeouts, and five walks to pick up the pitching victory.
Sophie Carpenter singled twice for Barnesville (11-11), with Ella Betts, Abygail Ady and Roselyne Anderson each collecting base hits in the loss.
BASEBALL
Cambridge 3, Meadowbrook 1: The Bobcats collected the season sweep with the road victory over the Colts on Friday for its second victory of the season over its county rival.
Cambridge (9-7) started fast with three runs in the first inning and senior Dawson Geese, with a little help from Garrett Carpenter, made it stand up for the victory.
Geese threw six innings, scattering six hits, one run and one walk while striking out 10 Colt batters. Carpenter came on in the seventh inning closing out the game with a strikeout and a pair of ground outs.
Senior Mason Gregg led the Bobcats with a pair of base hits, Geese singled for a pair of RBIs, and Michael Micale ,chipped in with an RBI single.
Meadowbrook (9-5) was led by Austin Warner and Devin Wells with two singles each, with seniors Cohen Miles, and Braylon Lowery each collected base hits for the Colts.
Ridgewood 9, Buckeye Trail 3: A huge five-run sixth inning from the host Generals, proved too hard to overcome for the Warriors in IVC action on Friday, April 24.
Buckeye Trail (6-4) was limited to just five hits in the game, with senior Sammy Brown stroking a double, and Nick Atkinson collecting a single with a pair of RBIs. Cameron Creighton added an RBI base hit and Chase Miller singled.
Caldwell 5, Philo 3: Starter Cameron Sidwell held down the visiting Electrics with a strong five-inning outing to collect the win and improve to 7-5 Friday, April 24.
Sidwell allowed one run on two hits with three Ks and two walks.
Kyler Starr doubled, singled with an RBI for Caldwell, with Lucas Baker chipping in with a double that plated a pair of runs. Sidwell and Izic Cool each collecting a pair of base hits.
Barnesville 12, Shenandoah 0: The visiting ‘Rocks broke open a scoreless game with the Zeps, putting up 12 runs over the final three innings for the lopsided win to move to 11-3 on Friday, April 24.
Brayden Watters finished with a double, single and three RBIs to lead Barnesville, with Max Miller stroking an RBI double. Dylan Blon, Cole Atkinson, Gunner Dudzik and Jack Anderson each picked up RBI singles for the ‘Rocks.
Thursday, April 23 Results
SOFTBALL
Meadowbrook 11, Morgan 1: Senior Addy Sichina worked five strong innings to lead Meadowbrook to its 12th win with a 11-1 victory over Morgan in MVL softball action on Thursday, April 23.
Sichina allowed just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks to pick up the win for the Colts (12-5).
“We are starting to come together at the right time,” coach Doug Pfeffer said. “You want to be peaking at the right time heading into the tournament. We are getting really good pitching from Addy Sichina and McKendall Boyer.”
Meadowbrook banged out 11 hits in the five-inning victory, with junior Chloe Callahan leading the way with a two-run home run and single. Senior Sommer Ginn doubled and singled with two RBIs, while senior Addy Randles singled twice with two RBIs. Senior Jordyn Vargeson collected a pair of base hits with an RBI, and senior McKendall Boyer chipped in with RBI single.
John Glenn 8, Maysville 2: Kendall Snider drove home three runs with a homer and double and struck out 16 in a complete game to subdue the hot-hitting Panthers in an MVL crossover in Newton Township.
Morgan Harper slugged a triple and double and Estelle Matheney had a two-run single for John Glenn, which scored four times over the final three innings to pull away.
Brooke 9, Cambridge 1: Offense proved hard to come up with the Bobcats, resulting in the lopsided road loss to the host Bruins on Thursdy, April 23.
Cambridge (6-13) was limited to three singles, with senior Laney Harper collecting an RBI base hit. Miranda Cole and Kynlee Moran finished with the other singles for the Bobcats.
BASEBALL
Cambridge 10, Shenandoah 1: The Bobcats combined big offensive innings with solid pitching and cooked up a two-game win streak with the road win.
Senior Mason Gregg provided the solid pitching, giving up just two hits and one run in seven innings of work with three strikeouts and three walks.
Javon Lowery doubled, singled with three RBIs to lead the Bobcats 11-hit attack, with MIchael Micale adding a double, single and two RBIs. Gregg and Tate Sikora each singled twice, with Garrett Carpenter and Carter Gebhart each collecting RBI base hits. Cam Lauer ripped a double for Cambridge (8-7).
Meadowbrook 5, Morgan 2: Senior Braylon Lowery tossed the complete game for the Raiders in an MVL matchup.
Lowery allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
Austin Warner singled twice with a pair of RBIs for Meadowbrook (9-4), while Lowery aided his own cause with a base hit that plated two runs. Senior Cohen Miles belted a solo home run.
John Glenn 5, Maysville 3: Four pitchers combined on a four-hitter for the Muskies, who won for the fifth time in seven games in an MVL crossover in Newton Township.
Carter Merry had two of John Glenn’s seven hits, both singles. Kayden McDonald had a pair of RBIs and Zane Townsend an RBI double; McDonald pitched four innings with four strikeouts to get the win.
Bryce Fisher had a double for Maysville, which got five two-hit, shutout innings from Tre Butcher in relief.
BOYS TENNIS
Cambridge 5, Claymont 0: The Bobcats improved to 10-8 with a road win.
Cambridge’s Jacob Vincent defeated Cooper Newton 6-3, 6-4 at first singles. Ezekiel Bergeson won 6-0, 6-2 against Korben Byers at second singles and Greyson Stoner defeated Julie Guzman 6-0, 6-0 at third singles for the clean CHS sweep.
In doubles action, Silas Hutchison and Quentin Stora hung on to win 6-4, 7-6(5) against Grace Canfield and Aubree Potts and in second doubles, Tyler Oliver and Loukas Laughman cruised 6-2, 6-1 against Lloyd Abel and Easton Shiaberry.
Wednesday, April 22 Results
SOFTBALL
Caldwell 11, River 1: Senior ace Makayla Mumaw was in control again from the pitcher circle to lead Caldwell to an 12-3 record with the victory over the visiting Pilots on Wednesday, April 22.
Mumaw allowed just one run, on two hits with 11 strikeouts, one walk to pick up the win for Caldwell and improve her season mark to 10-1.
Cami Arick led Caldwell’s 11 hit attack with a double, two singles with three RBIs, while Mattie Hesson chipped in with a double, single with an RBI. Mumaw aided her own cause with a pair of base hits, two RBIs, Lexi Franklin singled twice and Mea Hendershot ripped a double. Colie Arick added a base hit with two RBIs, and Sophia Marshall collected an RBI single.
Harrison Central 5, Barnesville 3:- The host Huskies erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and made it hold up to collect the Buckeye 8 Conference win over the Shamrocks on Wednesday, April 22.
Barnesville (9-7) was limited to just four hits in the contest, with Ella Betts leading the way with a 2-3 effort with a pair of base hits. Abygail Ady and Josslyn Danehart each chipped in with singles in the road loss.
BASEBALL
Caldwell 5, River 3: Izic Cool banged out three singles with an RBI to lead Caldwell past the visiting Pilots in baseball action on Wednesday, April 22.
Caldwell (6-5) finished with 14 hits, with Guiler Preston finishing with two singles with RBI, while Cameron Sidwell and Lucas Baker each picked up a pair of base hits. Wyatt Clark stroked an RBI double, with Jake Laswell supplying an RBI single.
Laswell recorded the win on the mound with a complete game effort, allowing three runs on six hits with six Ks and one walk.
Strasburg 5, Buckeye Trail 0: Tigers’ sophomore Brody Baughman tossed a dominating no-hitter with 16 strikeouts at the visiting Warriors in IVC baseball action on Wednesday, April 22.
Sam Wayble took the hard luck loss on the mound for Buckeye Trail who slips (6-3) on the season. Wayble surrendered five runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Tuesday, April 21 Results
SOFTBALL
Meadowbrook 7, New Lexington 0: The Colts got a second straight shutout pitching performance with senior McKendall Boyer blanking visiting New Lexington in a 7-0 MVL victory on Tuesday, April 21.
Boyer allowed just two hits while collecting 11 strikeouts to pick up the win for Meadowbrook, which improves to 11-5 on the season.
Boyer also contributed offensively with a team high three hits with a double, two singles and a pair of RBIs. Senior Addy Sichina doubled, singled with two RBIs, with senior Sommer Ginn banging out a pair of base hits with three RBIs. Freshman Addie Schultice chipped in with two singles.
Linsly 8, Caldwell 0: Linsly starter Madison Applegate shut down the potent Caldwell offense with a complete game effort to pick up the win.
Applegate allowed just four hits, with five strikeouts and one walk to earn the pitching victory for the Cadets.
Senior Lexi Franklin doubled and singled to lead Caldwell (11-3), while freshman Mea Hendershot doubled and sophomore Cecelia Marshall collected a base hit.
Buckeye Trail 4, Cambridge 2: Emilyn Watson belted a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the host Warriors their first win of the season over the visiting Bobcats.
Watson’s game winning blast gave Ela Patterson the pitching victory For Buckeye Trail (1-12), she tossed complete game effort allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Senior Laney Harper took the loss for Cambridge (6-12) who allowed four runs on six hits with nine Ks and one walk.
Watson added single to her game winning home run with two RBIs for the Warriors, with Ella Ashby chipping in with a triple, single and two RBIs.
Sophomore Cami Moore ripped a double, singled for Cambridge, while Alaceia Smith singled with a pair of RBIs.
BASEBALL
Cambridge 12, Marietta 2: A mix of a potent offensive night, along with a strong pitching proved to be the perfect recipe for victory as the Bobcats coasted past the visiting Tigers in five innings at Don Coss Field at Ron Antill Stadium.
Cambridge (7-7) erupted to take control for good with a seven-run third inning. Javon Lowery sparked the rally with a single to center. Michael Micale reached on an error before Mason Gregg drove in Lowery with a single to center.
Senior Garrett Carpenter gave up a single run in the first inning and a single run in the fifth inning, both unearned. Carpenter gave up only three hits in the game while striking out five to pick up the win on the mound.
Mason Gregg, Lowery and Griffin McIntire each singled twice with two RBIs to pace the Bobcats’ nine hit offense, with Carpenter and Derrick Peterson each collecting RBI base hits for the winners.
Barnesville 3, Buckeye Trail 1: Senior ace Dylan Blon tossed a complete game effort to lead the Shamrocks past the host Warriors in non-league baseball action.
Blon allowed one run on seven hits with 11 Ks and one walk with Barnesville moving to 10-3 on the season. Alan Cox took the loss for Buckeye Trail, allowing three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
Parker Sobutka and Braylon Lucas each collected RBI base hits to lead Barnesville, with Brayden Watters ripping a triple and Max Miller picking up an RBI on a fielders choice.
Senior Sammy Brown doubled and singled for Buckeye Trail (6-2), with Tyler Harrell and Sam Wayble each finishing with two base hits.
Meadowbrook 7, New Lexington 5: Junior Kam Winnett turned in a solid relief effort on the mound as the Colts rallied for the MVL win over the Panthers.
Winnett came on for starter Austin Warner, working four scoreless innings allowing only two hits with two strikeouts, one walk for Meadowbrook (8-4).
Sophomore Brady Arnold doubled, singled with a pair of RBIs to lead the Colts, with sophomore Kolton Perez banging out a two run single. Warner doubled, while Steven Beach and Cohen Miles each contributed RBI base hits.
TRACK & FIELD
Lady Bobcats take third place at Buckeye 8 Meet: The Bobcats girls’ track team took third place out of 12 teams at the Buckeye 8 Conference track meet, while the boys placed fifth out of 11 teams on Tuesday, April 21.
The Cambridge girls relied on the field events and sprints to score 98 points just four behind St. Clairsville and Barnesville who tied at 102.
“Right now, we need to keep doing the little things and have the right mind set as we head into ‘Championship Month’ (May),” Cambridge coach Tamara Gibson said. “We are working on putting everything together, so when we compete at the district meet, our athletes have the best chance to be successful.”
Paisley Williams was the lone individual winner for the Bobcats setting a new Buckeye 8 meet record of 12-foot in the pole vault.
Two different relays placed third for the top finish in the boys action with Damien Shaw, Damien Kissinger, Tyce Tolbert and Tate Sikora combining in the 4×100-meter relay, and Kissinger, Tolbert, A.J. Lawrence, and Sikora joining forces in the 4×200.
BOYS TENNIS
Hiland 4, Cambridge 1: A road trip to Berlin to take on Hiland High School in tennis seemed like a longer trip on the way home as the Bobcats suffered a loss on Tuesday, April 22.
Jacob Vincent continued his winning ways to capture the lone Cambridge victory, beating Joel Leinbach 6-2, 6-1 in number one singles action.
Ezekiel Bergeson lost 3-6. 3-6 to Vlad Horkovchuk at two singles and Greyson Stoner dropped his match 3-6, 0-6 to Noah Troyer at third singles.
In doubles action, Silas Hutchison and Quentin Stora lost 4-6, 3-6 to Quinn Mullett and Clay Lehman while Tyler Oliver and Loukas Laughman got beat 1-6, 1-6 by Max Jones and Ryan Baird.
Monday, April 20 results
SOFTBALL
John Glenn 10, River View 0: Muskies’ sophomore ace Kendall Snider turned in another stellar effort on the circle, shutting down the host Black Bears offense in MVL action for her 10th win of the season.
Snider allowed just two hits in five innings of work, finishing with 11 Ks to lead the Muskies to their sixth straight victory to move to 16-2 on the season.
Ava Miller led the Muskies’ 11 hit attack with a pair of base hits with four RBIs, Kinley Porter added a triple, single with two RBIs and Addi Babcock stroked an RBI double. Cora Dever finished with a double, single with Snider and Estelle Matheney each collecting RBI singles.
Caldwell 16, Shadyside 2: Junior Breighlee Moracco racked up five RBIs to lead host Caldwell to the lopsided victory over the Tigers.
Moracco led the 11 hit attack for the winners with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate with her third home run of the season, with two singles, while senior Makayla Mumaw added a triple, single with two RBIs. Senior Lexi Franklin collected two base hits with two RBIs, while Hailee Hull singled with two RBIs with Cecelia Marshall, Sophia Marshall and Cami Arick each collected RBI base hits.
Mumaw picked up her ninth win of the season from the pitching circle, allowing one run on one hits with six strikeouts and one walk for Caldwell (11-2).
Meadowbrook 11, New Lexington 0: Senior Addy Sichina tossed a three-hit shutout with nine Ks to lead the Colts past the host Panthers in MVL action.

Caldwell 5, Shadyside 4: Silas Cain broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning with an RBI ground out to give Caldwell the victory over the visiting Tigers.
Cameron Sidwell picked up the win on the mound, and led the five-hit Caldwell (5-5) offense with a double, single with an RBI, while Izic Cool added an RBI base hit. Lucas Baker and Kyler Starr rounded each added base hits.
John Glenn 14, River View 2: Jensen Parry led the Muskies’ 14 hit offense with a triple, single and five RBIs to collect the five-inning MVL road win over the Black Bears on Monday, April 20.
Carter Merry picked up the pitching victory for John Glenn (4-9), allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Merry aided his own cause offensively with a double, two singles with an RBI, while Owen Edwards, Keegan Halsey and Zane Townsend each banged out a pair of base hits with two RBIs. Reid Howard ripped a double with a pair of RBIs for the Muskies.
New Lexington 6, Meadowbrook 3: The host Panthers used a six run sixth inning to post the MVL win over the Colts in MVL play.
Meadowbrook (7-4) finished with just three hits, led by Tre Gray with a double and singles from Kolton Perez and Braylon Lowery.
BOYS TENNIS
Cambridge 5, Coshocton 0: The Bobcats High School tennis team celebrated senior night by getting back into the win column after a tough weekend with the victory over Coshocton at the Cambridge City Park courts.
Cambridge seniors Jacob Vincent and Ezekial Bergeson were recognized and celebrated the night with each picking up victories.
Vincent defeated Chase Danielek 6-1, 6-1 at first singles and Bergeson defeated Jackson Malafarina 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. At third singles, Greyson Stoner beat Emme Jackson 6-4, 7-6 (7).
At first doubles Silas Hutchison and Quentin Stora beat Jet Aronholt and Jacie Aronholt 6-0, 6-2 and at second doubles, Tyler Oliver and Loukas Laughman defeated Lucy Baylor and Kayla Moore 6-3, 6-3.
