On dead, another arrest after U.S. 41 crash near Port of Everglades

A Naples man has been arrested on DUI manslaughter charges after a multi-vehicle crash involving several motorcycles left one person dead Saturday, April 25, on U.S. 41 in Collier County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around noon Saturday on U.S. 41, also known as Tamiami Trail, west of Cays Drive, FHP said. The highway was closed for several hours and reopened later that evening.

Investigators said a pickup truck driven by Marshall Franklin Jenkins, 43, of Naples, was traveling south when it crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane and struck a northbound motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a 79-year-old Miami man, was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. His name had not been released as of Sunday morning.

The crash involved four additional motorcycles. Debris from the initial collision struck two riders, and another motorcyclist later collided with the downed motorcycle, authorities said.

Three other riders — a 43-year-old man from Cutler Bay, a 73-year-old man from Miami and a 56-year-old man from Miami — suffered minor injuries.

Jenkins was not injured and was arrested at the scene. He faces one count of DUI manslaughter (drug-related), along with additional charges of DUI with property damage and DUI with injury, according to FHP. He was booked into the Collier County Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
