FREMONT – Following the 4th of July holiday, more orange construction buckets are expected with a $4.4 million road project on U.S. 20.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will impose lane restrictions on U.S. 20 between Clyde and Bellevue starting July 6 through September.
While it is considered minor roadway rehabilitation, road resurfacing is expected to continue into the fall.
Detour for roundabout construction in Fremont
The extensive roundabout construction on the east side of Fremont, with the U.S. 20 bypass connection to State Street, starts a new phase with a detour and three roads with lane restrictions.
With an estimated construction cost of $7.2 million, the project will not be completed until Spring 2027.
The project is meant to improve interchange safety by reducing crashes and improving mobility within the interchange and throughout the U.S. 20 corridor.
More than just constructing the roundabout at the current interchange of U.S. 20 and State Street, the project will also convert the current intersection of County Road 198 and County Road 229 on U.S. 20 into a cul-de-sac.
Westbound U.S. Route 20 exit 105 to E. State St. is closed for construction of the roundabout.
Roundabout detour: Continue east on U.S. 20 to exit 102/U.S. 6, to North 5th Street to Walnut Street to Ohio Avenue.
Lane Restrictions:
Additional road construction projects
Between Bellevue and the Seneca county line, there will be lane restrictions for resurfacing through September.
State Route 510, between State Route 412 and U.S. Route 20, is closed for full-depth pavement reconstruction through July. Local residential and business access will be maintained by flaggers when approaching from U.S. 20. No southbound traffic will be permitted from State Route 412.
There is a commercial detour for this project: State Route 412 to U.S. 20 and vise versa.
Following this phase, State Route 510 will be closed between U.S. Route 6 and State Route 412 beginning in August. Check back for specific dates
