A former Ohio State legend looks like he will be on the move.
According to a Yahoo Sports report, the Memphis Grizzlies and D’Angelo Russell are in discussions to work together to let the veteran guard find a new home.
The Memphis Grizzlies are undergoing a rebuild after the trade of their star Ja Morant this offseason and it does not seem to be a timeline fit with Russell. The sides are discussing a potential buyout agreement or possibly trade. A potential move would have Russell land with his fourth team in two seasons.
Russell was traded to the Grizzlies in a six-team trade earlier in the offseason. He spent time with the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards last season.
Russell, 30, appeared in 25 games for Dallas in 2025-26. He chose to opt-in to the final year of his contract which was for $6 million dollars.
Russell played one season in Columbus before he declared for the 2015 NBA Draft. He was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. He played two seasons for Los Angeles before being moved to the Brooklyn Nets.
A former All-American, Russell has built himself a solid NBA career as a scorer and playmaker. His role has diminished later into his career and he will hope that whichever team he settles on next will offer him an opportunity to once again become a key role player and play for a championship.
