MASSILLON – Armstrong, a family-owned telecommunications provider headquartered in Pennsylvania, has reached a deal to acquire Massillon Cable TV (MCTV).
The companies announced the planned acquisition, details of which were not disclosed, on Feb. 17. It is expected to close in the second quarter of 2026.
“This decision was driven by our desire to ensure a strong, sustainable future for our employees, customers, and community,” MCTV President Katherine Gessner said in a prepared statement.
“We’ve served our communities well for 60 years, and it’s time to pass the torch. I’m confident that Armstrong will not only preserve MCTV’s legacy but will build on it.”
Gessner’s grandparents, Richard and Susan Gessner, founded the Massillon-based cable television and broadband company in 1965.
MCTV employs more than 165 people and serves about 60,000 homes and businesses in Massillon, Wooster and along the Ohio-West Virginia border, according to the company’s website.
Armstrong was founded as Armstrong County Line Construction in 1946 by Jud L. Sedwick and is the 11th largest multiple system operator (MSO) in the United States. The company serves more than 400,000 residential customers in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland.
“We could not be more pleased to be welcoming MCTV customers and employees to the Armstrong family,” Dru Sedwick, Armstrong Group CEO, said in a prepared statement. “The joining of these two companies is something that makes perfect sense. We continue to believe strongly in this industry.”
Armstrong President Jeff Ross said that MCTV’s investments in its fiber network and operations complement Armstrong’s “existing footprint” and would position the combined company for “continued growth and innovation.”
“We will add more than 96,000 passings to the Armstrong footprint, which means more homesand businesses across six states will have access to our premier fiber network,” he said in a prepared statement.
Messages seeking comment with MCTV and Armstrong representatives were not immediately returned.
