Local thespians who always wanted to perform Hamlet now have a chance to star in the tragedy.
Auditions for the play are scheduled for 6-9 p.m. May 3 and May 4 inside Founders Auditorium at the Ohio State University at Mansfield campus.
The production is presented by The Mansfield Shakespeare Company for its upcoming Shakespeare in the Park performances June 19, 20 and 21 in Mansfield’s South Park.
“This production of Hamlet will bring Shakespeare’s legendary tragedy to life for Mansfield audiences in a bold and engaging outdoor setting,” the company noted. “The play follows Prince Hamlet as he grapples with betrayal, revenge and the mysteries of life and death after the ghost of his father reveals a terrible secret.”
Director Joseph Fahey is seeking actors and actresses 13 and older, with a few exceptions for younger performers when appropriate. Newcomers and veterans alike are encouraged to audition.
Auditioners will perform readings from the script May 3-4.
“It is recommended that actors read or re-read the script in advance of their audition,” the company noted. “Prepared monologues from any of Shakespeare’s plays are welcome but are not required.”
The performance is non-union and non-compensated.
