JetBlue Airlines is returning to John Glenn Columbus International Airport with a nonstop flight to Fort Lauderdale starting Nov. 3, the airport announced May 4.
JetBlue first announced it would be adding new routes, including one to Columbus, out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport – Spirit Airlines’ main hub – on May 2. That was the day the now-defunct airline collapsed.
Columbus Regional Airport Authority CEO Daren Griffin said JetBlue’s new route will ensure travelers have access to the Fort Lauderdale airport, a critical gateway for international travel to locations such as Cancun, San Juan, Nassau, Cali, Cartagena and Guatemala City.
“We look forward to seeing JetBlue back at CMH as we continue to grow our flight offerings to meet the demand of our travelers,” Griffin said.
Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines also offer a nonstop route from John Glenn Columbus to Fort Lauderdale. Allegiant Air has a nonstop flight from the authority’s Rickenbacker International Airport to the Florida city.
JetBlue has not operated out of John Glenn Columbus since 2008.
Other than Columbus, JetBlue is starting new nonstop routes from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Cali, Colombia and Barranquilla, Colombia this year.
