Local districts receive bus safety funds
COLUMBUS − The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has announced $10 million in Ohio School Bus Safety Grants going to 371 schools, school districts and county boards of developmental disabilities across Ohio.
The grants are for safety upgrades to existing buses and the addition of advanced safety features on new buses. This includes $8,434 to West Muskingum Local Schools, $96,252 to East Muskingum and $38,217 to Maysville.
Wrestling show slated for Feb. 7
ZANESVILLE − Southern Championship Wrestling will have a show at 7 p.m. Feb. 7, at the Jackson Street Civic Center, 928 Jackson St. Doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 with children age 5 and younger admitted for free.
Blood drives scheduled
ZANESVILLE − Several American Red Cross blood drives are scheduled upcoming for the local area. This includes from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 27 and 1 to 7 p.m. Feb. 2 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 830 Military Road; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Perry County Opportunity Center, 5250 Ohio 37; and noon to 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at Miller High School, 10397 Ohio 155. Dog license deadline looming
ZANESVILLE − Dog and kennel licenses for 2026 must be purchased by Jan. 31. Late fees will be attached after the date. A list of locations where dog tags can be bought is listed at muskingumcountyauditor.org. If your dog has died or you no longer have a dog, be sure to update your records by calling the auditor’s office at 740-455-7109, option 1.
Genesis recognized as Most Wired
ZANESVILLE − Genesis HealthCare System has been named one of the Most Wired hospitals for 2025 by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives. It’s the 10th consecutive year the organization has earned the honor. The certification places Genesis in the top 10% of all hospitals in the country utilizing integrated technology. Surveys assessed the adoption, integration and impact of technologies in healthcare organizations at all stages of development, from early development to industry leading.
