Heath adds six record-setting athletes to Hall of Fame

Heath High School inducted six former star athletes — Scott Colangelo, Nathan O’Reilly, Samantha Jones, Katie (White) Felth, Derek Hamm and Austin Morrow — into its Athletic Hall of Fame before the Aug. 22 football game against Philo.

Colangelo, a 1980 graduate, was a three-sport athlete in football, golf and track.

Colangelo excelled in track, winning five Licking County League championships and placed sixth in the 100-meter dash at the state meet. He held school records in the 100 and 200 and was a member of the school-record 400 relay team for 25 years.

O’Reilly, a 1996 graduate, was a three-sport star in football, basketball and baseball.

In football, O’Reilly earned all-district honors as a senior and holds the program’s records for single-game and career receptions. In basketball, he helped the Bulldogs win the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division championship and ranks fifth in the program in assists for a single season.

In baseball, O’Reilly earned all-district honors as a senior, leading the Bulldogs to the program’s first league championship in 23 years. He twice led the team in runs scored and led the team in hits as a senior.

Jones, a 2010 graduate, excelled in track for the Bulldogs.

Jones earned Mid-State League-Buckeye Division Runner of the Year honors as a junior and placed sixth in the 100-meter dash at the Division II state meet as a senior. Her school record of 12.4 in the 100 still stands, and she also was a member of school-record 800 and 1,600 relay teams.

Felth, a 2012 graduate, earned seven varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, gymnastics, cheerleading and track.

Felth excelled in track, winning five individual Mid-State League-Ohio Division titles, earning Field Athlete of the Year honors three consecutive seasons. She qualified for the outdoor state meet three times and placed fifth in the shot put during the Division II/III indoor state meet.

Hamm, a 2014 graduate, excelled in golf for the Bulldogs.

Hamm earned all-conference and all-district all four seasons, earning Division II Central District Player of the Year and All-Ohio second-team honors as a senior. He is the school’s program leader in rounds under 40 with 26 and second in the program in career birdies and pars and low nine-hole round at 32.

Morrow, a 2020 graduate, was a three-sport star in football, basketball and baseball.

In football, Morrow was a three-time captain, earning the Licking County League’s Ernie Godfrey Scholar Athlete Award and totaling 2,740 yards and 35 TDs in his career as a passer and rusher. In basketball, he was the starting point guard on the only team in school history to go 22-0 in the regular season and ranks eighth all-time in career steals.

In baseball, Morrow was named to the LCL-Cardinal Division first team each of his first three seasons before his senior season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He was the team batting champion and a three-time winner of the team gold glove.
