A pair of girls from the state runner-up Central Catholic Crusaders highlight the local honorees on the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association Division IV-VII All-Ohio girls basketball teams, which were released Monday, March 23.
Central’s Grace Finefrock earned second team in Division VI, while teammate Sarah Belden was third team. In Division IV, Carrollton’s Kylie Ujcich was first team, West Branch’s Madi Hoopes was second team and Northwest’s Ally Sharrer was third team.
The Divisions I, II and III girls All-Ohio teams will be released Tuesday, followed by Divisions IV, V, VI, and VII boys on Wednesday. The Divisions I, II and III boys will be released Thursday. Finefrock, a 5-foot-5 junior guard, is a versatile player for the Crusaders. She averaged 13.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists. Central broke through for its first state appearance since 1981 after losing in a regional semifinal last year. The Crusaders finished 23-6.
Belden, a 5-6 senior, was a top defender and another versatile performer for Central. She averaged 12.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.4 steals.
Ujcich, a 5-6 senior, averaged 13.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 2.9 assists. Carrollton lost in a district final and finished second to West Branch in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Hoopes, a 6-1 freshman, averaged 13.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.1 steals, 2.3 assists and 2.2 blocks for the Warriors. She was the Eastern Buckeye Conference Player of the Year in leading West Branch to its third straight league title. The Warriors were regional finalists.
Sharrer, a 5-8 junior, was the top player for defensive-minded Northwest. She averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals. Northwest, which lost in a district final, went 20-4 overall and 12-0 PAC-7 play.
