Enquirer names Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, May 1

In a vote that ended May 1, Cincinnati.com readers selected the 2025-2026 Cincinnati Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through April 26.

Winners can print their certificates from this week starting Monday and other weeks now using this Drop Box link. Send a photo of the winners with their certificates for our photo gallery.

Here are this week’s winners.

Ohio big-school baseball team: Oak Hills – Oak Hills won three games last week, including a 14-4 win over Fairfield to remain atop the Greater Miami Conference.

Ohio small-school baseball team: Norwood –Norwood went 3-0 on the week and is riding a five-game win streak, having outscored opponents 65-8 in that span.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana baseball team: Conner – Conner went 3-0 for the week, sweeping Cooper and beating Simon Kenton 10-5.

Ohio big-school softball team: Mason – A four-win week for the Comets continues a six-game winning streak.

Ohio small-school softball team: Batavia – Batavia ended the week with an 11-1 win at Blanchester and a 4-2 win over Hillsboro.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball team: Notre Dame Academy – The Pandas had a three-win week, outscoring Dayton, Holy Cross and Scott by a combined 40-1 margin.

Boys spring team: Fenwick volleyball – The Falcons beat Carroll and Badin to improve to 8-0 in the Greater Catholic League-Coed, clinching at least a share of the conference title.

Girls spring team: St. Ursula track – The St. Ursula track team scored 194 points to win the Batavia Invitational No. 2.

Boys archer: Ari Edmonds, Scott – He finished 73rd in the state archery tournament with a 282.

Girls archer: Karina Usman, Simon Kenton – She finished 10th in the state tournament with a 288, leading the Pioneers to eighth as a team.

Ohio big-school baseball: Jack Rosenacker, Elder – The junior had three hits and two RBIs in a 5-3 win over St. Xavier.

Ohio small-school baseball: Jack Phillabaum, Summit Country Day – He got his 100th career hit in a three-game sweep over Cincinnati Country Day. He had five hits, three RBIs, six runs scored and six steals.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana big-school baseball: Michael Bryson, Covington Catholic – The junior had three hits, three runs and four RBIs in a 14-9 win over Scott.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana small-school baseball: Jacob Berning, Bellevue – The senior had three hits in key district wins over Dayton and Newport.

Flag football: Evie Schoolfield, Mount Notre Dame – The senior threw for 258 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-15 win over Clark Montessori.

Ohio boys lacrosse: Cam Neeley, Fenwick – The sophomore had six goals and five assists in two wins last week against Carroll and Chaminade Julienne.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys lacrosse: Carter Alsip, Ryle – The sophomore goalie had 13 saves against Lexington Christian, recording another 12 saves in a 13-7 win over Covington Catholic.

Ohio girls lacrosse: Maddie Jones, Edgewood – The senior tied the school record with nine goals in a game against Dixie Heights, finishing with 14 goals for the week.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls lacrosse: Caitlin Ross, Notre Dame – The junior scored four goals and had an assist in an 8-2 win over Ryle.

Ohio big-school softball: Josie Harness, Harrison – She pitched three complete games last week, including two shutouts. Her cumulative pitching line was 19 innings, one earned run allowed, 24 strikeouts and a 0.37 earned run average.

Ohio small-school softball: Kaydence Ayers, Norwood – The junior threw a five-inning shutout, striking out eight batters and allowing two hits, in a win over Mariemont. She also hit .500 with a double and six RBIs during the week.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana softball: Josie Feebeck, Campbell County – In three wins last week, the junior hit .800 with a double, a triple, two RBIs, seven runs scored and seven stolen bases.

Boys singles tennis: Jacob Kramer, Covington Catholic – He picked up two wins in three matches, beating Highlands 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) and Trinity 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).

Boys doubles tennis team: Layne Pelvit/Luke Pelvit, Bethel-Tate – The seniors won 6-1, 6-1 in first doubles over Blanchester on April 22.

Northern Kentucky girls singles tennis: Bea Chiessi, Scott – She is undefeated in second singles this year, dropping just a single set. The junior had four more wins over the week.

Northern Kentucky girls doubles tennis: Taylor Justice/Morgan Justice, Scott – They delivered first doubles wins over Campbell County and Mason County.

Ohio boys track and field: Micah Tucker, Fairfield – The sophomore won the 3,200-meter run at Colerain with a new personal best of 10:29.48, then ran an 800-meter run personal best of 1:59.99 at Lakota West.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys track and field: Henry Kramer, Bishop Brossart – The eighth-grader won the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run at the Campbell County Championships on April 22, then ran a 3,200-meter personal best of 10:23.25 at the Camel Classic on April 25.

Ohio girls track and field: Aleah Coster, Oak Hills – She won the 800-meter run in 2:28.59 and the 1,600-meter run in 5:17.25 at Colerain.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls track and field: Emma Ritter, Bishop Brossart – She won the triple jump at the Campbell County Championships and the Camel Classic, and took second place in the long jump at the Campbell County Championships and fourth place at the Camel Classic.

Ohio boys volleyball: Joe Taggart, St. Xavier – The senior had 26 kills, six digs and two aces as St. Xavier swept Elder on the road.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys volleyball: Channing Wilson, Scott – The junior combined for 37 assists in three matches.

The Enquirer will no longer mail certificates to schools after getting feedback that families weren’t receiving them. Alex Harrison will make digital copies of all certificates available to families by 8 a.m. the Monday after the Friday win. Families will access the PDFs through this public Dropbox link.
