Newark Catholic baseball player Owen Przymierski was selected the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Boys Athlete of the Week for April 20-26.
Przymierski struck out 15, allowing four hits and one earned run, and had two hits and an RBI in an 8-2 victory over Johnstown.
Przymierski received 77.1% of the vote and was followed by New Albany volleyball player Levi Starinsky, who received 22%.
Also nominated were Olentangy Orange tennis player Luke Rutherford and Bexley tennis player Henry Lessard.
For the season, Starinsky, the runner-up, has more than 150 kills, 22 blocks, and more than 130 digs. He also has a team-best 2.5 passing rating.
Rutherford improved his season record to 10-2 with four wins in as many matches, three of which were in singles. He did not drop a set and won five sets 6-0.
Lessard won both of his matches in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 over Cincinnati Indian Hill’s Neelan Gandhi and 7-5, 6-2 in doubles over Cincinnati Sycamore’s Abi Dinesh and Jake Farquhar.
The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.
Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week. The boys poll is live until 4 p.m. Fridays. The girls poll is live until 4 p.m. Saturdays.
Anyone can nominate an athlete by email to bwhite1@dispatch.com or through X (formerly Twitter) tagging @BrianWhite13.
Once athletes win during the regular season, they’re not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
