Cincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino’s return from IL pushed back

ST. LOUIS – Originally expected to return from a hamstring injury this week in San Diego, Cincinnati Reds catcher Jose Trevino instead has had the timeline pushed back into the upcoming homestand.

Trevino has not had a setback. Manager Terry Francona said the catcher has “some personal stuff that he needs to attend to the next couple days.”

That means Trevino, who has played two games for Triple-A Louisville on a rehab assignment, plays again Wednesday, Francona said, before he returns from the IL – likely during the upcoming weekend home series against Arizona.

Trevino has been on the IL with a left hamstring injury since May 17.

Pierce Johnson, Emilio Pagán progress

In other Reds injury news, reliever Pierce Johnson played catch from 150 feet Sunday on a plan that could have him throwing his first bullpen session Tuesday since landing on the IL a week ago with elbow inflammation.

And closer Emilio Pagán (right hamstring) is scheduled to get an assessment again Monday for “strength deficit,” Francona said, with an eye toward clearing him to start throwing from a mound.

Pagán said he expected his first bullpen session since the injury a month ago to happen by the end of this week.
