Montgomery Road near Kenwood Towne Centre remains closed after a late-morning collision left one person dead, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
Connor Walchle, 28, was traveling northbound at “a high rate of speed” on Montgomery Road at around 11 a.m. Dec. 24. He then clipped another vehicle at East Galbraith Road and went airborne, according to officials.

After clipping a Mercedes, Walchle’s vehicle left the roadway, hitting a curb. The vehicle went airborne and struck tree branches, clipped a utility pole, flipped sideways and hit another utility pole, breaking it and bringing the power lines down with it.
Walchle and his passenger were trapped and rescued by the Sycamore Fire Department. Walchle was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes was not injured, and Walchle’s passenger was left in critical condition, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Fronomos told Enquirer media partner Fox19.
Walchle and the passenger live in South Carolina and were in town for Christmas, the sheriff’s office said.
Officials with the sheriff’s office did not have an estimate for when Montgomery Road near East Galbraith Road would be reopened.
The incident is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office traffic safety unit.
