Centerburg softball player Abby Herren was selected the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Girls Athlete of the Week for March 39-April 5.
Herren went 8 for 10 in three games with a four doubles and a home run. Her .867 average for the season led the state according to MaxPreps.
Herren received 39.8% of the vote and was followed by Westerville Central softball player Elliott Long, who received 32.5%, Pickerington Central softball player Mycah Massey (11.2%), Danville softball player Ruby Bartok (8.4%), Whitehall Yearling flag football player Anjanae Woods (4.2%) and Liberty Union softball player Ryleigh Brown (3.7%).
Also nominated were Olentangy softball player Addi Hulshof and Watkins Memorial softball player Marlee Gerhardt.
Long, the runner-up, pitched all 14 innings in two wins with a total of 24 strikeouts, no walks, and only one earned run.
Massey led the Tigers during a 3-1 week in batting average (.538), doubles (three), triples (two) and RBIs (eight) and also had a home run with a 1.308 slugging percentage.
Bartok had five hits in eight at-bats spanning three games, including four home runs and nine RBIs.
In two games, Woods rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and had 25 receptions for 290 yards.
Brown went 7 for 9 with four doubles, two home runs and a triple in three games, all wins.
Hulshof went 8 for 14 in four games with seven RBIs, two home runs and two doubles.
Gerhardt hit a grand slam as a part of four-hit, seven-RBI day in a 16-11 victory over Teays Valley.
The Athlete of the Week voting recognizes athletes across all sports.
Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week. The boys poll is live until 4 p.m. Fridays. The girls poll is live until 4 p.m. Saturdays.
