Canton police search for SUV driver who hit and dragged motorcyclist before fleeing scene

CANTON ‒ A 52-year-old motorcyclist was hurt when he was hit by an SUV that left the scene of the collision.

The crash occurred late on Aug. 21 at Harmont Avenue and Fairmount Boulevard NE. A police report says the SUV was going south on Harmont when it made an improper left turn onto Fairmount, hitting the front of the westbound Harley-Davidson that was stopped at the stop sign on Fairmount.

Skid marks were observed on the pavement where the motorcyclist was apparently dragged for a short distance on Fairmount.

A witness said the SUV was gray and appeared to be a Ford Edge. It had no distinct markings.

A Canton Fire Department ambulance took the motorcyclist to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where the staff said he was conscious and is expected to recover.

The motorcyclist lives in northeast Canton less than half a mile from the scene of the crash that occurred at 11:53 p.m.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 330-438-4485.
