Baseball

Roosevelt 4, Tallmadge 3

After the Blue Devils overcame a two-run deficit in the top of the seventh, the Rough Riders walked it off in the bottom of the inning. Roosevelt sophomore Garrett Polcha allowed just one run in six innings while senior Johnny Estep had a team-high two hits and two runs batted in. Freshman Luke Beatty and junior Rocco Baggetta added an RBI apiece for the Rough Riders (9-5, 7-2 Suburban American).

Garfield 10, Brookfield 8

Down 9-5, the G-Men rallied, tying the score with a run in the sixth and taking the lead with a two-run seventh. Brock Pesicek had a team-high three hits while Nate Baczkowski, Brandyn Bogucki, Cole Summers-Wade and Lukas Workman had two hits apiece as Garfield finished with 16 overall. Summers-Wade also contributed 4⅓ scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win on the mound.

Ravenna 6, Coventry 5

Down 4-1 in the middle of the fifth, the Ravens rallied with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to record their second Metro Athletic Conference victory. Carter Mitchell and Connor Welling both played starring roles for Ravenna with a double apiece. Mitchell led the Ravens in hits (two) and runs batted in (three) while Welling tossed a complete game, limiting the Comets to five runs (one earned).

Southeast 14, Liberty 0

Caden Dillon, Derek McIntyre and Joe Sharish combined on a one-hit shutout, striking out nine batters. Dillon also went 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs while Dan Clint also drove in three runs and Cohen Richardson doubled and tripled.

Streetsboro 12, Field 0

The Rockets snapped the Falcons’ five-game win streak, adding to the pandemonium in the Metro Athletic Conference standings. Streetsboro scored three runs in the first, four in the second and five in the third to build a big lead. That was plenty for Jake Szczecinski, who tossed a four-hit shutout (in addition to driving in three runs) for the Rockets. Brady Long reached base three times with a double and two walks to go with two runs and two RBIs. Jayden Coffie, Colton Cox, Graham Jonas and Scott Wilson added two hits apiece for Streetsboro (8-7, 6-4).

The Falcons fell to 7-3 in the MAC while first-place Cloverleaf absorbed its second league loss against Woodridge to drop to 8-2. Norton is also in the thick of the title chase at 9-3.

Wickliffe 3, Rootstown 1

The Rovers fell despite R.J. Soika’s three-hitter. Soika limited the Blue Devils to three runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks. Alex Ely, George Luli and Jayden Whitesel had two hits apiece to lead Rootstown offensively.

Lake Center 9, Mogadore 2

The Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take full control of their nonleague clash with the Wildcats. Jake Hopkins, Chase Pitts, Maddox Smith and Landen Williams had a hit apiece for Mogadore.

Softball

Field 17, Streetsboro 0

The Falcons erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the first to remain undefeated in Metro Athletic Conference play. Ursuline 5, Southeast 3

In an odd twist, seven of the game’s eight runs were scored in the fifth inning. The Irish scored four insurance runs in the top of the inning to push their lead to 5-0 before the Pirates answered with sophomore catcher Lylia Lavigna’s three-run homer in the bottom of the inning.
